Is School a Scam?
For a while now, I have continually thought about university education being a need or a waste of time and resources.
Two days ago, a friend was having an intelligent rant on his WhatsApp status about how spending 3-4 years in the university delivers no tangible result.
Today, a friend puts up a post about how graduates leave university with no promise of a good job.
This posts put my thoughts about this into a higher gear. So stay with me, as we journey through my opinion on this.
It's a straight one, school is not scam.
School always deliver on its promise. School never promised a good job or a great life, it promises knowledge and a certificate at the end.
Either the knowledge is relevant, useful, applicable or none of the above, is not the question. Knowledge is promised, knowledge is delivered.
So the onus rests on each one to find the right school and course of study that delivers the best knowledge possible within the time spent.
And even after that, to deliberately convert the knowledge acquired into wisdom. Either by putting this knowledge to use or adding more to it from different sources- online and/or offline.
And before you conclude that successful entrepreneurs are drop outs, check it again, most of these have some level of degree. Most CEO's of large companies have a minimum of a first degree.
So what's my conclusion? University is not compulsory, but it's still relevant in today's world. Although maybe this might change in the next decade. But for now, please get a degree if you can but while at it, be sure to learn other things that would help you achieve your goals and ambition.
