Home Working Economy
With announcement from Twitter, Facebook, Morgan Stanley, Amazon, Microsoft about extending their work from home programs. It appears work from home would be more widely accepted even after Covid-19.
Just like a lot changed, post world war, a lot will definitely change post Covid-19, and of course that's not news.
So let's look at how a larger embrace for home working will change a lot of things:
1. Company's will expand their net for hiring new employees, beyond national geographical boundaries. Recruitment companies will likely need more international presence.
2. Demand for commercial office spaces might fall, and as such probably driving down prices, and forcing re-purposing commercial buildings . However, there will likely be a need for larger residential building, as employees want to have dedicated rooms in the house as work spaces.
3. There will be a continuous demand for remote training. As more certifying bodies now allow their training to be delivered online. People can now take cross border training from their home, and value delivery of training companies has to be more internationally competitive.
4. More people from developing countries will have opportunities for working remotely with international organisations.
However, challenges with power and internet, will increase the demand for Co-Working spaces. Alternatively, a demand for full service accommodation with regular power supply and internet. Perhaps this will increase the demand for solar power in this countries. 5. If less people commute to work, will they be willing to commute to gyms and fitness studio? Perhaps Online Fitness coaches will hit a even bigger jackpot after now. 6. With more home working, will cities need to start rethinking their transportation, as there might be a dip in demand. Although cities like London and Lagos will probably only come to normal as the commute in these cities is already far beyond what their current infrastructure can handle. Oh! how I hate rush hour commute in these two cities. 7. Working from home might increase the demand for online delivery for lunches, ad most eat outs are closer to commercial offices than homes. And beyond ordering food online, we seem to have now trusted eCommerce for almost everything... so this behavior will probably get even wider acceptance. These are my opinion formed by my reflection of the current situations. What else do you think will be influenced by home working?
