Business Lessons from the Bible 01
A few hours ago, I thought it's time to start writing a book that will launch in January 2021, while I have another I plan to release in December 2020. I hope this aspirations are realised.
So the book for January 2021 is titled 50 Business Lessons from the Bible. Some of these are already captured in my note. However, a new one dropped in mind at that moment.
Rahab! Do you know her? She is the lady who hid the Israelite spies when they came to spy out Canaan. If not for her, the would have killed those spies. And in return when the Israelites came to take over the land, she and her family was saved. She dropped a red ribbon on her window that signified partnership, and her own building stood up while others fell.
What can businesses learn from this? It's about investing in other companies (startup or otherwise) that are coming to disrupt yours or make your own company's product in less demand. Instead of trying to create a competition that can not stand due to changing customer demands and consumer behaviour.
A good example is Shell, the global oil and gas giant investing in Tesla, the electric car company. Shell knows the demand for fossil fuel will keep declining and the company is quickly divesting. There are equally so many other renewal energy investments that Shell is making.
Align with the future, divest correctly.
And even as a career person, know when the demand for your role is declining and start pitching your tent in a different career path. So when it all comes crashing down, you can still swim with the tide. Like the company in the United States, teaching former miners to code. You can evolve, so please do and stop whining.
Always, always, pitch your tent with the future.
