Business Lessons from the Bible 02

When you solve the biggest problem for a client they become an evangelist of your brand.

Your business might be solving the challenges for many other clients, but the ones who experienced the biggest solution doing business with you, will actively campaign for more potential customers to come to you.

Jesus understands this principle, when he met with the woman of Samaria by the well. He started by being friendly and extended the conversation to diagnosing the woman's problem, while recommending the solution he came with - the living water.

This one man, was so convinced not only by the solution but also the insights he had into her problem, that she became a champion customer going around the city seeking to convert more customers to the kingdom of God through her word of mouth advertising (evangelism).

Same way it is important to know in business, that you should sometime stretch to find those potential customers in the deepest trouble and by helping them, you are potentially earning yourself the biggest campaign manager you could ever get.

Slack makes a good case for this, they solved a real problem. A problem of many teams not being able to figure out a way to manage communication without sending multiple emails. This even became more timely as remote teams were becoming more widespread. To imagine that slack had to beg their first set of users to adopt their product and provide feedback, shows many teams didn't even know how big the problem is. And continually slack has focused on providing learning content to help teams understanding their need and how best to use the tool.

Having a freemium model also reduces the barrier to entry and easier for people to refer their friends or other teams in their work place.

Slack is said to have a much bigger support team than sales, meaning they have leaned into providing exceptional service as means to triggering more word of mouth campaign to bring in more people.

I have personally have this experience first hand. I have recently put a remote team together on a project and while I personally sought a different tool other than slack, a number of people on the team seemed to have become champions for this product. That they drove the desire for adoption until it became reality.

In summary, solve a real problem and see how word of mouth will spread your fame like wild fire.

Many might think, yes many businesses are solving a real problem but the question is are they getting in early enough at the point where they even have to help users in discovering the problem?
